Dick Bennett

Richard "Dick" Bennett is a Menlo Master and has been since 1997, back when we were at Burgess Pool in Menlo Park.

He is a fantastic swimmer, competitor, team mate, swim coach and person.  He is also a fighter.  He has battled cancer for more than 6 years.  He is still fighting but he is facing extreme odds.  His health in failing rapidly.

Our thoughts, hopes, prayers, and wishes are with him and his wife and team member Ann Kay.

Your cards of appreciation and thanks have helped lift his spirits through this challenging period of his life.

I can speak for all the weekday early morning swimmers when I say that I am wishing hard that he is able to make it back on deck soon.

Short Course Yards-Champs - Pleasanton

The 2006 Short Course Yard Championships, April 7-9, are going to be held this year in Pleasanton .  It is a Pacific Masters Short Course Yards Championships . The meet is hosted by the Walnut Creek Masters and the TriValley Masters at the Dolores Bengston Aquatic Center. You can register on-line for the meet. On-line entries must by submitted by midnight March 29. There are no deck entries. There are many hotels in the Pleasanton, Dublin area to stay when competing at the meet.

Menlo Masters has been attending this meet for the past 15 years and we intend to uphold the Menlo tradition by fielding a jovial, strong and fast crew of swimmers that represents a cross section of our team.

It feels like I am getting a late start on "lighting the fire" for this meet.  Energy has been pulled towards hosting our own meet only two weeks later and on the possibility of a team transition to Menlo Park

There is still time.  We have until Wednesday March 29 at midnight to field a group of competitors.  If the Rinconada meet was any indication, as a team we are ready for this.

Burgess Pool Update

The next step in the process is to attempt to secure a "Use Permit" for the facility.  The Planning Commission meeting on April 10 is where the commission will hear the arguments for and against the agreement and decide whether or not to issue the permit.

Team support, by the way of bodies in the audience will be helpful to our efforts.

If we are successful in that step, then it will go before the City Council again on April 18.

If it is important to you, please attend these two meetings to display support and solidarity.
